On the day of the State Relay Championships

Full Club uniform must be worn

Athletes must wear full club uniform with patches attached in correct position. Please ensure that all uniforms meet the requirements. Uniform rules are strictly enforced.

Plan ahead with enough time

  1. Athletes should arrive at the Athletics Centre at least 1 hour before the scheduled start time.
  2. Keep an eye on the WhatsApp chat on the day for any relevant updates, such as where the team are sitting.
  3. Let your Team Coordinator know when you have arrived, so that the athletes can get together for some warm ups.
  4. Warm Up: There is a designated synthetic field (shown top left below) available for warm ups, accessible from behind the back straight available throughout comp on Saturday & Sunday. Spikes or throwing implements not permitted.
  5. Each full Relay Team (3-4 athletes) will be accompanied by their Team Coordinator to the Call Room no later than 30 minutes before their scheduled event for Field events and 20 minutes for Track events (except first field events of the day who head directly to their event). Relay teams will be escorted by event officials to the Field of Play.

Call Room is located at the rear of the grandstand building outside the Disability Sports Centre (shown below, bottom centre).

Duty Sessions

A condition of participation for all Athletics NSW & Little Athletics NSW Championship events is that each family completes a Duty session to help out with the running of the event. This is applicable to all clubs.

Canterbury Athletics families will be given the opportunity to choose a preferred session from the available options. The roster will be published on this page and shared in WhatsApp closer to the time. After a short period, the club will then allocate any remaining sessions to ensure that club commitments are met.

No-shows for any allocated duty sessions may result in forfeiting the Canterbury Athletics Club Duty Bond and may impact on future selection to represent the club. These sessions do not count toward Duty Bond fulfilment, which are specific to club competition only.

The Club must fill all Duty session spots allocated by the event organiser. Depending on allocation and number of participating families, Age Managers, Committee and Team Coordinators may be exempt as they are contributing in other capacities, but are asked to stay flexible on the day to support if required.

Event entry for State Relays is invitational, by Club appointment. Athletes are selected based on merit in the Point Score Competition (Friday night).

  • State Relay Rules & Procedures – 8s- 12s athletes can participate in Track OR Field events, not both. 13s+ can compete in both.
  • Age Managers will notify athletes/parents of athlete nomination in the weeks preceding the event.
  • If you/your child is not able to participate, please let your Age Manager know as soon as possible.
  • Sprint Relay training will be held in the weeks prior to the events being held. It’s important that participating athletes attend to practice and finalise baton changes.
