Regional Championships

The Region 8 Championships will take place on Saturday 1 February and Sunday 2 February 2025 at Sylvania Waters Athletics Track, 225R Belgrave Esplanade, Sylvania Waters.

Regional Championships (Region 8) Athletes

Athletes in the age groups 8s through to 15s are eligible for the Regional Championships via qualification through the Zone Championships.

Athletes in the 16 (U17), 17 (U18), U20s and Para Championships age groups/ category must self-nominate directly with NSW Athletics in order to compete. Even if they participated in Zone Championships, they will still need to register as there is no automatic qualification to progress to Regionals. https://www.nswathletics.org.au/events/271709

Uniforms

Full Canterbury Athletics uniform is required including the Coles sponsor patch, Age Group patch and Registration Number sewn onto the singlets. Correct blue centre shorts to be worn. Skins underneath are acceptable, provided they are a single colour with no contrast stitching or logos. Athletes will be turned away from marshalling if their uniform is not correct, particularly if patches aren’t sewn in the right place.

Events

It is your responsibility to ensure your athlete gets to marshalling on time. You are less likely to miss a call if you are sitting in the Canterbury seating area.

Athletes in the first listed field events of each day will go straight to their first event. All other athletes must attend the relevant Call Room when their event has been announced. The Track Call Room and Field Call Room are located at the northern end of the main track. Only competing athletes are permitted in the Call Room. Only parents rostered to help are permitted in the Call Room. Parents should not hang around the Call Room once athletes are in the tent. Athletes are not allowed to wear their spikes in the call room, they will be given time to put them on at the start line for their event.

Family Duty Roster

Canterbury Athletics Club, like all clubs participating, are expected to fulfil a number of duties across the Championships event. In 2024/25, we were allocated 32 slots based on the number of families. It is a condition of your athlete’s participation at Regionals that each family fulfils at least one duty. If you do not sign up, you will be allocated a spot by our Committee.

Please note that all times are approximate. Be prepared to be flexible in case events run late.

Progression from Regionals to State

8s athletes do not progress past the Regional Championships.

The names of all qualifiers to each region will be posted on the LANSW website as soon as all zones within the regions have been completed.

Please refer to the NSW Athletics Regional Championships page for more information on Championships progression.
