Canterbury Athletics Club, like all Little Athletics are powered by volunteers from our community. We rely on a strong team of active, regular volunteers to help ensure that the events run as smoothly and efficiently as possible. Every volunteer role is important.

Where do I go when I arrive?
Please say hello to your Age Manager at the first event location and ask how you can help.
What is expected of me on the night?
- Wear a yellow vest from the box near the big tree (Tiny tots wear blue vests, picked up on field with the group).
- Your role is to assist the Age Manager with:
- Raking/measuring/being the spiker at the end of the long jump pit.
- Spotting/measuring throws.
- Accompanying groups of athletes to the toilet.
- Giving lots of encouragement during events.
- Supervision of athletes and running any side games as instructed by the Age Manager
- Supervision is particularly important in the younger age groups.
- Age Managers will rely on you to help ensure the athletes stay off the track, stay away from throwing areas, keep fingers out of the discus cages, stay with the age group etc.
- Unfortunately, there are instances such as throwing and jumping events where there is a lot of waiting around. Games such as ‘duck duck goose’, ‘heads down: thumbs up’, ‘broken down telephone’ are great for entertainment while waiting. Don’t worry if you’re not familiar with these, the kids are always eager to suggest games and share the rules!
Age Group Helpers who do not help will be asked to leave (and duty will not be counted that night).
When can I leave?
- The Age Manager will let you know once all events are completed.
- For younger age groups, you’ll be required to accompany athletes to a meeting point where they can be collected by their parents.
- Please do not leave your duty, or take your child, without informing the Age Manager first.
Register duty completion at the end of the night with your Age Manager.
- Return your volunteer vest to the box you got it from.
